What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.
What We Do
AWARENESS
Community Outreach
Community members are provided with information on mental health, social and cultural issues for personal and professional development. We encourage participation through storytelling for a full view of these issues and understanding. We give advice on mental health and run awareness programs in the community.
Parenting
The Sanctuary provides a wealth of information to help parents design their own unique goals and approaches to parenting and whole-child development. Parents can find useful information on health, whether it’s physical, mental or social.
Mentoring
We invest in building a new generation of leaders. It is in our best interest to nurture the community through exercises, forums, workshops and community outreaches that offer children, youth and women the opportunity to listen, learn and engage with every aspect of their lives.
Literacy
Our programs are working to increase access to sustainable and high quality education especially for girls. We inform, engage and mobilize available resources and people to achieve educational goals and objectives. This is based on the understanding that illiteracy and poverty are some of the underlying causes of poor mental health.
Advocacy
Challenging mental health inequalities
Certain population subgroups are at higher risk of mental health problems because of greater exposure and vulnerability to unfavorable social, economic and environmental circumstances. These intersect with factors including gender, disability, poverty and displacement.
Influencing policy
We work to develop evidence based mental health policies to help create a society in which everyone can enjoy good mental health. We advocate for a preventative approach targeting the root causes of mental illness.
Research
We are passionate about the transformative power of research to create change in people’s lives, their communities and workplaces, in services and policy.
SERVICE DELIVERY
Psychosocial support
Community members are provided with psychosocial support through creation of safe spaces. This creates a sense of belonging in communities so as to enhance mental wellbeing and improve quality of life through the use of problem solving therapy delivered by trained peers.
Employee support Programs
The Sanctuary promotes positive relationships within the workplace by delivering professional counselling services on behalf of a number of organizations and employers. It is a confidential counselling service offered by employers to their employees to support their wellbeing in the work place and in their personal lives. Depending on the employer’s arrangement, this program may also extend to immediate family members.
Referrals
We help identify when and where to seek professional help within the community and also link the patient to the health care professional.
